Comfort
At Granta Dental, we're committed to offering an approach which combines a real concern for your ease and relaxation with investment in the latest technology to make your treatment as comfortable as possible.

Understanding your concerns
Being anxious about going to the dentist can happen for a number of reasons. Perhaps the sounds and smells trigger memories of unpleasant childhood experiences - or perhaps you worry that the treatment will hurt. We'll help you with any specific concerns, and work with you to find the best way of helping you feel confident.
Pacing your treatment
We can be flexible in how we schedule your treatment so you can take one step at a time. You may want to first just chat to the dentist and have an examination with a mirror; then book a session with our hygienist; then move on to further treatment as and when you feel comfortable.
Using distraction techniques
Some patients like to distance themselves from what’s going on by listening to music – we'll be quite happy if you arrive in the surgery with your MP3 player! Or, you may feel more comfortable if your practitioner describes to you exactly what they are doing while they are working. We're happy to discuss the approach that will be most helpful for you.
Giving you control
When in the chair, you can agree a sign which means ‘Stop now – I need a break’ and treatment can be stopped until you're ready to start again. Don’t be afraid to say when you have had enough – there's usually no reason to hurry through treatment.
Sedation
After discussion with you, we can use a variety of sedation approaches such as oral medication and homeopathic remedies to help you feel calmer. We can also refer you to a hypnotherapist to learn to relax during treatment.
Painless tooth cleaning
We routinely use OraqizTM, a gel which is applied round the gumline of sensitive teeth to reduce the discomfort of cleaning.
Painless injections
Many people have a fear associated with needles, particularly when it comes to dental treatment. We routinely use the WandTM, which is a painless, controlled delivery of anaesthetic directly to your tooth. This not only avoids the initial pain of an injection but also the unpleasant numbness in lips and face - and it greatly reduces the quantity of anaesthetic you'll need for comfortable treatment.
No-drilling fillings
We may be able to use ozone treatment and photo-activated (laser) disinfection to treat some small cavities; these processes don't involve drilling.
Homeopathy
There are many ways homeopathy can be used in dentistry - for example, there are homeopathic medicines that can be prescribed in place of antibiotics. Also, homeopathy encourages a holistic approach to patient care, and can open up the possibility of other holistic treatments, such as diet analysis, that can help support dental health. However, homeopathy doesn't replace the mechanical arts of dentistry and sadly there's no homeopathic remedy that can numb a tooth.
