Minimal intervention

The problems that occur in your teeth can be caused by a number of things: regular use, injury or a misaligned bite. But the main reason for problems is plaque, which causes dental cavities.

For years, the only really effective way of treating cavities has been to remove the infected and decayed parts of a tooth, then replace that part with a filling. But this weakens the tooth, and the margins around it are even more difficult to keep clear of plaque and even more susceptible to infection - so new decay develops.

At Granta Dental, we're committed to minimal intervention, identifying cavities or potential cavities at the earliest possible stage, then removing the least possible part of your tooth - so helping your teeth stay stronger and more protected against infection, and avoiding further treatment. This isn't just important for the younger members of the family, to ensure good teeth for life; if you're older, simple management can not only make the difference between keeping and losing your teeth, but also prevent your having to replace costly fillings or crowns.

In particular, we use three technical solutions which are particularly useful where cavities are new or shallow. They can avoid painful drilling, keep your tooth intact and so guard against further problems.
