Fillings
Teeth that have suffered damage from dental decay (caries) or fracture require repair and replacement of the lost part. We routinely use tooth coloured filling materials where this treatment is required.
Where there is a new cavity detected in a tooth we will always seek to treat the tooth by repairing the damage without need for a filling if possible. Our routine screening at check-up appointments seeks to identify cavities at their earliest stage to minimise treatment required.
Cavities requiring filling are assessed for the most suitable material to keep the treament as simple and economic as possible whilst providing a long lasting reliable result.
White or tooth coloured filling materals of the composite resin type are very effective but particularly sensitive to the presence of moisture during placement. In order to optimise the success of the fillings and minimise any discomfort after the procedure, rubber dam is routinely used to isolate the teeth being treated from saliva.
